Our Commitments

Sustainability, Ethics & Animal Welfare at Momoc Shoes

At Momoc, we believe that beautiful shoes should never come at the cost of people, animals, or the planet. Since our founding in 2017, every decision we make is guided by this principle. Here we share, with full transparency, the commitments and practices behind every pair of Momoc shoes.

PEOPLE

Made in Spain — Fair Labour, Fair Wages

Every pair of Momoc shoes is handcrafted in Elda, Alicante — the historic heart of Spanish shoemaking. We are proud to support local artisans and preserve traditional craftsmanship that has been passed down for generations.

Our production takes place entirely in Spain, a country with robust labour protections under EU law. All workers involved in the production of Momoc shoes — from our artisans to our material suppliers — operate under Spanish labour regulations, which guarantee fair wages, safe working conditions, social security, and the right to collective bargaining.

Our Labour Principles

  • Fair wages: All workers in our supply chain are compensated in accordance with Spanish collective agreements (convenios colectivos), which meet and exceed EU minimum wage standards.

  • Safe working conditions: Our workshop in Elda operates in full compliance with Spanish occupational health and safety regulations.

  • No child labour: Momoc has zero tolerance for child labour at any stage of production. All workers are adults employed under legal contracts.

  • No forced labour: We do not engage in, nor tolerate, any form of forced, bonded, or compulsory labour.

  • Freedom of association: All workers have the right to join trade unions and engage in collective bargaining, as protected under Spanish and EU law.

  • Gender equality: Momoc is a woman-founded and woman-led brand. We are committed to equality and non-discrimination in all aspects of our business.

Transparent Supply Chain

Momoc's entire supply chain is based in Spain. Our factory, warehouse, and the majority of our material suppliers are located in the Elda area (Alicante). This proximity — known as km0 production — allows us to maintain close, personal relationships with every partner in our chain and to verify working conditions directly and regularly.

We proudly support the Fashion Revolution movement and believe in the principle of transparency: consumers have the right to know who made their clothes and shoes, and under what conditions.

PLANET

Made-to-Order: Zero Overproduction

Momoc operates a made-to-order business model. This means we only produce what has been ordered — eliminating overproduction, unsold stock, and the massive textile waste that plagues the fashion industry. This is a conscious choice we made from day one, and it remains central to our sustainability commitment.

Our Materials

We carefully select materials that minimise environmental impact without compromising quality or design. Our key materials include:

  • Pinatex (pineapple leaf fibre): A natural, sustainable textile made from pineapple leaf fibres — a byproduct of the pineapple harvest that would otherwise be discarded.

  • Desserto (cactus leather): An innovative plant-based material made from nopal cactus, which requires minimal water and no irrigation to grow.

  • Recycled textiles: We use recycled fabrics and fibres across our collections, giving new life to materials that would otherwise end up in landfill.

  • Eco-friendly microfibre: Our linings and insoles are made with ecological microfibre — soft, durable, and with a significantly lower environmental footprint than conventional alternatives.

  • Organic cotton: Our packaging is made from organic cotton — plastic-free and reusable.

  • Natural cork: Used in several sole constructions, cork is a renewable, biodegradable material harvested without harming the tree.

  • Natural raffia: A plant-based fibre used in our summer collections, biodegradable and sustainably sourced.

All our materials are OEKO-TEX certified, guaranteeing they are free from harmful substances and safe for both consumers and the environment.

Reducing Our Carbon Footprint

Our km0 production model — with the factory, warehouse, and most suppliers located within the same area in Elda, Alicante — means our logistics-related CO2 emissions are extremely low, close to zero. By keeping production hyper-local, we avoid the carbon-intensive international shipping that characterises most fashion supply chains.

Water Conservation

By using recycled materials and eco-friendly microfibre instead of conventional leather, Momoc saves up to 8,000 litres of water per pair of shoes produced. The traditional leather tanning process is one of the most water-intensive and polluting in the fashion industry — by choosing vegan alternatives, we avoid this entirely.

Plastic-Free Packaging

Every pair of Momoc shoes is delivered in our signature bag-box, made from organic cotton. Our packaging is 100% plastic-free, reusable, and designed to have a second life — many of our customers use it as a travel bag or storage pouch.

Durability by Design

Momoc shoes are designed to be timeless — not trend-driven. Our classic, original designs are made to last for years, not seasons. We use high-quality materials and traditional artisanal techniques to ensure durability, because the most sustainable shoe is the one you don't have to replace.

Commitment to Continuous Improvement

Sustainability is not a destination but a journey. We are constantly researching new, more sustainable materials and production methods. We are committed to reducing our environmental impact year after year and to sharing our progress transparently with our community.

ANIMALS

100% Vegan — No Exceptions

Since summer 2019, every Momoc product is 100% vegan. We do not use any animal-derived materials in our shoes, bags, or accessories. This includes:

  • No leather (we use plant-based alternatives: Pinatex, Desserto, and recycled materials)

  • No suede (we use microfibre and textile alternatives)

  • No wool

  • No silk

  • No fur

  • No angora

  • No down

  • No exotic skins

  • No animal-derived glues

PETA-Approved Vegan

Momoc is certified by PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) as a PETA-Approved Vegan brand. This certification verifies that none of our products contain animal-derived materials and that no animal testing is involved at any stage of production.

Supporting Animal Welfare Beyond Our Products

Our commitment to animals goes beyond our materials. We donate 2% of our profits to animal sanctuaries — rescue centres that provide a dignified life to animals who have suffered abuse and cannot be returned to their natural habitat. We collaborate with verified sanctuaries in Spain, conducting thorough research before establishing any partnership.

Giving Back

We donate 2% of our profits to organisations dedicated to reforestation and animal welfare:

  • Reforestation projects: We partner with initiatives that plant trees and restore natural ecosystems, helping to offset carbon emissions and protect biodiversity.

  • Animal sanctuaries: We support verified rescue centres in Spain that care for abused and abandoned animals, giving them a second chance at a dignified life.

Raising Awareness

Through our #planetblog, we share information about sustainability, environmental issues, and ethical consumption — because we believe awareness is the first step toward meaningful change.

OUR COMMITMENT TO TRANSPARENCY

We believe that as consumers, you have the right to know how the things you buy are made. That is why we openly share information about our materials, our production, and our values. We welcome questions from our customers and the public — if you would like to know more about any aspect of our practices, please contact us at momoc@momocshoes.com.
