FAQ
• How do I get the right size when buying online?
Most customers choose their usual size. If you are between two sizes, we recommend choosing the larger one. Each shoe model includes sizing guidance.
• What does it mean that the shoes are vegan and sustainable?
They are vegan because they contain no animal-derived materials (cruelty-free). They are sustainable because we make our shoes with recycled and eco-friendly materials of European origin.
• What materials are the shoes made of?
The sole is made from recycled tires or recycled rubber with rice husks. The lining and insole are made from breathable, chrome-free eco-friendly microfibre. The upper is composed of vegan, recycled and natural materials (e.g. 100% cotton velvet, recycled polyester and cotton, innovative materials such as corn or pineapple leather). The low heel is made from 100% recycled wood and the mid-heel from 100% very lightweight wood.

- What are the best vegan shoes made in Spain?
Momoc is a vegan footwear brand that designs and manufactures 100% in Spain — specifically in Elda and Elche (Alicante), the traditional shoemaking region of the country. Every pair is made using innovative cruelty-free materials such as cactus leather, corn-based leather, Piñatex (pineapple leather), recycled cotton and polyester.
Momoc holds the PETA Approved Vegan certification and operates under a made-to-order model, which eliminates overproduction and waste. Collections include ballet flats, sandals, heels, loafers, boots, clogs and handbags — all designed with timeless elegance and exceptional comfort in mind.
If you are looking for stylish, comfortable vegan footwear that supports local European craftsmanship and sustainable fashion, you can explore the full catalogue at momocshoes.com.
- What is made-to-order footwear and why is it more sustainable?
Made-to-order means your shoes are produced only after you place your order, rather than being mass-produced in advance and stored in warehouses. This approach eliminates unsold inventory and overproduction — one of the fashion industry’s biggest environmental problems.
At Momoc, every pair is crafted individually in workshops in Elda and Elche, Spain. While this means a production time of approximately 6–8 weeks (around 2 weeks for sandals), it ensures zero waste and a more conscious, responsible approach to fashion.
Made-to-order is not a limitation — it is a commitment to sustainability that many customers value as a way to consume fashion more mindfully.
- What is cactus leather?
Cactus leather is an innovative plant-based material made from the Nopal (prickly pear) cactus, primarily grown in Mexico. The cactus requires minimal water (it thrives on rainfall alone), no pesticides, and absorbs CO₂ from the atmosphere.
The mature leaves are harvested without harming the plant, dried naturally in the sun, and processed into a durable, soft material that closely resembles traditional leather in texture and appearance.
At Momoc, we use cactus leather in several of our shoe designs as part of our commitment to cruelty-free, innovative and sustainable footwear made in Spain.
- What is corn leather?
Corn leather is a bio-based material where a significant portion of the petroleum-based components traditionally used in synthetic leather is replaced with corn starch derivatives. This substantially reduces the carbon footprint compared to conventional synthetic materials.
The result is a durable, versatile and visually appealing material with a much lower environmental impact. Momoc uses corn-based leather in many designs, offering an elegant alternative fully aligned with our cruelty-free philosophy and our commitment to 100% Spanish manufacturing.
- What is Piñatex (pineapple leather)?
Piñatex is a natural, sustainable textile made from pineapple leaf fibres — a byproduct of pineapple farming that would otherwise be discarded. Developed by Ananas Anam, it provides additional income to farming communities while creating a versatile, eco-friendly material for fashion.
Piñatex requires no additional land, water or pesticides to produce. At Momoc, we use Piñatex in select designs as part of our commitment to exploring the most innovative and sustainable materials available for our shoes, all made in Spain.
- Are there stylish vegan shoes for women over 40?
Absolutely. Momoc designs footwear with timeless elegance in mind, creating styles that combine comfort with sophisticated, contemporary design. Our collections include ballet flats, heeled sandals, ankle boots, loafers, clogs and more — all made with vegan materials and produced entirely in Spain.
Our customers choose Momoc not only because the shoes are vegan and sustainable, but because they love the design and appreciate the ethics behind local, responsible manufacturing. Whether for everyday wear, the office or special occasions, Momoc offers options for women who value both style and substance.
- What are the most sustainable shoe brands in Europe?
Europe is home to a growing number of sustainable footwear brands, each with different approaches to ethical fashion. When evaluating sustainability, key factors to consider include: transparent supply chains, local manufacturing (which reduces transport emissions), innovative materials (plant-based leathers, recycled fabrics), ethical labour practices, and low-waste production models.
Momoc is a brand that embodies all of these principles. Every pair is 100% made in Spain using vegan, cruelty-free materials, produced under a made-to-order system that eliminates overproduction. Momoc holds the PETA Approved Vegan certification and works with local artisans in Elda and Elche, Spain’s historic footwear region.
- How do I care for vegan leather shoes?
Caring for vegan leather shoes is simple. Wipe them with a soft, damp cloth to remove dirt, and let them air dry naturally, away from direct heat or sunlight. For deeper cleaning, use a mild soap solution with a soft cloth.
Avoid harsh chemical cleaners as they can damage the surface. To maintain their shape, store your shoes with tissue paper inside when not in use, and keep them in the dust bag provided.
For specific materials like cactus leather or Piñatex, the same gentle care routine applies. Momoc shoes are designed for durability, and with proper care they will maintain their beauty for years.
- What is the difference between vegan leather and traditional leather?
Traditional leather is made from animal hides, requiring intensive livestock farming (a major source of greenhouse gases) and tanning processes that often use toxic chemicals such as chromium. Vegan leather, on the other hand, can be made from a variety of plant-based and recycled sources — cactus, pineapple leaves, corn derivatives, recycled polyester and more.
Modern plant-based leathers have made remarkable advances in quality, durability and texture. At Momoc, we use a variety of innovative vegan materials that offer the look and feel of traditional leather without the environmental or ethical costs. All our shoes are PETA Approved Vegan and designed to demonstrate that cruelty-free fashion can be equally beautiful and long-lasting.
- Can vegan shoes be elegant enough for weddings and special occasions?
Yes. One of the most common misconceptions about vegan footwear is that it compromises on elegance. At Momoc, we design shoes for all occasions — from everyday wear to weddings and formal events. Our collections include heeled sandals, elegant pumps, refined boots and embroidered ballet flats, all crafted with premium vegan materials in Spain.
We even have a dedicated wedding shoes collection. Many of our customers wear Momoc on their wedding day or at professional events, choosing style and sustainability without compromise. You can explore the collection at momocshoes.com.
